Roundtable Discussion Tackles Wealth Building in the Black Community

March 2023

Center for Black EntrepreneurshipOn February 16, federal, state and local elected officials; business leaders; entrepreneurs; faculty gathered at the Spelman College Innovation Lab for a roundtable discussion centered on how the Center for Black Entrepreneurship (CBE) will expand wealth-building across the Black community. Spelman and Morehouse College students also got the chance to showcase their work and get first-hand access and feedback from these top leaders. The roundtable was moderated by Samantha Tweedy, CEO of the Black Economic Alliance, and included Spelman President Helene Gayle, Isabella Casillas Guzman, 27th administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration; Wally Adeyemo, deputy secretary of the U.S. Treasury; U.S. Representative Nikema Williams (GA—05); Christopher Nunn, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs; and Grant Warner, the inaugural Bank of America Endowed Professor of Entrepreneurship and director of the CBE.

Inspired by the discussion’s tone of hope and optimism, President Gayle spoke to the limitless potential this historic moment influenced. "We really think the CBE can be something for the whole nation, and hopefully and potentially, for the world," she said. "This center really focuses on this issue of economic equity through entrepreneurship in a way that I think can move the needle not only for our campuses, not only for our city but much broadly than that. I am excited for what will be created."
