Georgia Midterm Elections Inspire AUCC Events

November 2022

With historic implications – especially in the Senate and gubernatorial races – Georgia’s 2022 midterm elections have inspired multiple efforts to get young voters educated and out to the polls.

Last week, Spelman College hosted the "Our Democracy, Our Choice" teach-in – an event organized to encourage the community to focus on democracy, rights, voting and elections. Organized by Spelman’s faculty members and student leaders from the social justice programSGANAACP and non-profit organization founded by Stacey Abrams, Fair Fight, this teach-in featured "lightning presentations" (five minutes or less) portraying the perspectives from members of the community.

Georgia Votes In addition, WABE’s political news team (Sam Gringlas, Susanna Capelouto, Rahul Bali, and Emma Hurt of Axios Atlanta) from local podcast, Georgia Votes 2022, hosted a live session from The Atlanta University Center’s (AUC) Robert W. Woodruff Library Virginia Lacy Jones Exhibition Hall to discuss the latest news on Election Day 2022.

From rides to the polls supported by local non-profit organizations to early voting access within the AUC, the focus has been clear to encourage students to exercise their right to vote.
