Georgia R. Dwelle, M.D., Networking Reception

October 2022

Georgia R Dwelle

Last week, the Spelman College Health Careers Program celebrated its 50th anniversary at the annual Georgia R. Dwelle, M.D., Ceremony and Networking Reception. This special event – hosted in conjunction with Advocate Aurora Health – honored the life and legacy of Georgia R. Dwelle, M.D., and highlighted how Spelman’s Health Careers Program supports its students preparing for careers and educational opportunities in science and research communities.

Rosalind Gregory-Bass, M.D., C’92, director of Spelman’s Health Careers Program, opened the ceremony by honoring the program’s rich history as well as its current students. Special greetings and recognitions were provided by Advocate Aurora Health representative, Michele Smith, Ed.D., and April Curry, Ph.D., C’2009, director of admissions for Meharry Medical College.

Dr. Dwelle was the first Spelman alumna to receive her medical degree and who attended Meharry Medical College. Along with being the first in many medical breakthroughs in Georgia, she was hired as the physician for females attending Morris Brown College, served as vice president of the National Medical Association's Pediatric Commission, and more.
