October 2022

Kearstin Piper Brown Kearstin Piper Brown, C’2000, recently debuted as star protagonist, Esther, in Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage’s opera adaptation of "Intimate Apparel" as part of the 50th anniversary season of the PBS series, "Great Performances." The play is set in early 20th century Manhattan and explores the power of courage, resilience and unrequited love. Brown, a seasoned performer with a number of credits to her name, understands the unique need to have such representation in the canon. Brown was recently inducted into the Opera Parallèle 2033-23 season and serves as a mentor and champion for young, marginalized performing artists. Her current influence in the arts and education communities include chair of the board of directors for Gateways Music Festival; member of the board of directors for the William Warfield Scholarship Fund; and consultant/facilitator for the Antiracism Academy.

The Alexandria, Virginia native was a prize-winner in several international competitions, including the Montserrat Caballé International Competition, the William Matheus Sullivan Foundation, the Gerda Lissner Foundation Vocal Competition, and the Licia Albanese-Pucinni Foundation International Vocal Competition.
