Dr. 'Dimeji Togunde Elected to The Academic Council of IES Abroad

Dimeji TogundeConsortium representatives of The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES Abroad) comprising of over 260 leading U.S. Colleges and Universities have elected 'Dimeji Togunde, Ph.D., Spelman College's vice provost for Global Education and professor of international studies, as a member of the Academic Council of IES Abroad. He we will serve for a three-year term from January 2022 to December 2024.

"The invaluable input and expertise the participation of Consortium members, such as [Dr. Togunde], brings to groups like the Academic Council is one of the ways that IES Abroad is unique in the study abroad field. By giving a voice and agency to you, we not only ensure synergy and alignment between what our partners and their students need and what IES Abroad delivers, but together we also uphold the goals of meeting—and exceeding—the highest academic standards possible"., said Gregory D. Hess, Ph.D., President & CEO of IES Abroad.

Comprised of elected Consortium members and IES Abroad staff, the Academic Council oversees IES Abroad program quality control by setting educational policy for IES Abroad, reviews/evaluates existing academic programs, advises the IES Abroad president concerning all academic matters, and provides for systematic contact between the member institutions and IES Abroad both abroad and in the U.S.

Spelman has been a long-time member of the IES Consortium and regularly sends its students to various study centers for semester and customized short-term faculty-led programs.

"My election is clearly a testament to Spelman's commitment to international education and its reputation as a hub for global learning," said Dr. Togunde. Sitting on the Academic Council will afford me the opportunity to collaborate with all other stakeholders in shaping academic quality and policy developments at IES Abroad."
