Spelman Biology Chair Tiffany Oliver to Speak at TEDxMorehouseCollege

Dr. Tiffany Oliver Presents at TEDx Morehouse CollegeTiffany Oliver, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the Department of Biology at Spelman, will speak at TEDxMorehouseCollege on Tuesday, October 12. She and the other dynamic speakers will focus on “Pushing the Envelope” for under-represented, marginalized, or disadvantaged groups in order to make a better society in Atlanta and beyond.

Dr. Oliver, who's federally funded research lab studies the role of how near-infrared light inhibits cell death affiliated with wound healing, will give a TEDx talk about how she pushes the envelope as a Black woman and geneticist. Her passion resides in mentoring and sustaining minority students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) by studying and evaluating the best practices for women of color who are interested in pursuing careers in science and medicine.

She has received several distinguished honors related to your laudable STEM mentorship geared towards “Increasing Diversity and Inclusion in a changing Research Landscape.” Her ultimate goal is to change the narrative around women of color in STEM by improving their exposure to STEM.

The HBCU TEDx Conference will take place in the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center located at 830 Westview Drive, S.W., Atlanta, Georgia. The ultimate goal of the event is to galvanize ideas worth spreading and create a forum for catalyzing this movement.

Innovation in Research

In this video, Dr. Oliver discusses her innovative research with red light therapy and how it can promote blood flow, help treat wounds, alleviate joint pain, improve hair growth and reduce the negative effects of age.
