Top Ten Graduate: Chantia Murphy, C'2021

May 2021

Spelman College Top 10 Class of 2021 Graduate Chantia MurphyChantia Murphy, a first-generation scholar born in Jamaica and hailing from Brooklyn, New York, knew Spelman College would be her home when she got a taste of the experience on Accepted Students' Day.

As a student at a predominantly white high school, Murphy did not have much knowledge of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, but stepping on Spelman’s campus, she knew she found the missing piece to her puzzle.

Murphy thrived in her collegiate space as an English major exploring race, sex, and media and was very involved on campus. She served as the president of AUC Vybz, the social media manager AUC Tristate, a Ford First Generation mentor, a Peer Assistant Leader, and a Spelman Ambassador.

Outside of her activities at Spelman, Murphy interned at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, Understood for All, Henry Street Settlement, and FemmeItForward at Live Nation Entertainment. Well traveled, had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain and immerse herself in a new environment and culture amongst her sisters. She then went on to visit Thailand with other students of the Atlanta University Consort

Murphy plans to continue combining activism with her media passion and work as a a social media and marketing manager. Her overarching goal is to have her own TV show to shed light on the untold stories of silenced and minoritized voices.
