Trustee Ronda Stryker and husband create a $2 million matching fund to keep Spelman Strong

November 2020

Stryker GiftIn recognition of the importance of the Spelman College Annual Fund this school year, Trustee Ronda Stryker and her husband, William Johnston, created a $2 million matching fund to keep Spelman Strong. This challenge will match dollar for dollar, each of the first $2 million in gifts to the Annual Fund through June 30, 2021.

“As former educators who believe strongly in social justice, Bill and I have great appreciation for how Spelman provides a superior education for students that encourages them to be global change agents,” said Stryker, a director of the medical equipment company Stryker Corp., as well as vice chair and director of Greenleaf Trust, an investment bank chaired by Johnston.

As co-chair of the Women’s Education Coalition, Stryker was instrumental in helping to raise more than $1 million to form the organization, which supports women who return to school as non-traditional students. Her philanthropic interests are focused on the empowerment of women and support of non-traditional student enhancement programs at colleges and universities. Additionally, her charitable gifting seeks to assist in the elimination of racism, sexism and homophobia.

About the Challenge

The math is simple and applies to whatever amount individuals can donate: $50, $500 or $1,000 gifts to the Annual Fund becomes $100, $1,000 or $2,000 for Spelman to use to support our students right now. That is Spelman Strong.
Help kick off the Spelman Strong initiative by making an Annual Fund gift this fiscal year. Your generous contribution will be doubled and have that much more impact on the next generation of Black women leaders who are coming up at Spelman right now.
