May 2020

Tashiana TuckerTashiana Amara Tucker, a sociology and anthropology major, is a Spelman College Social Justice Fellow and currently serves as the co-president of Difficult Dialogues.

Tucker has interned on Capitol Hill for Congressman Dwight Evans, and also traveled abroad to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Barcelona, Spain. Upon graduating, she will relocate to Houston, Texas and serve as a 2020 Teach for America Corp Member in the KIPP Charter School network.

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native said, "I am forever grateful that God saw fit for me to walk through the grand gates of Spelman College and made provision for me to matriculate with purpose." She added, "My time here has undeniably nurturing and prepared me to find a greater sense of self, while providing me with the space and tools to imagine my part in creating a better world."

"After serving as an educator and before I serve as a Congressional officer, I will successfully establish a faith-based transition home for formerly incarcerated young adults. This goal is greatly inspired by the research I birthed at Spelman and my lived experience with familial incarceration."

"I spent the past four years being molded and inspired by my Spelman sisters in all their glory. Though my senior year did not end as expected, I know that there is no other class more fit for this task. The class of 2020 has shown consistently that we will always rise. I can not wait to see how our individual choices to change the world will manifest."
