Spelman’s 2019 Homecoming Week to Feature Chart-Topping Artists, Healthcare Summit and More

Homecoming TailgateRegistration is open for Spelman’s two-day summit on healthcare, “Multidimensional Perspectives on Healthcare in the 21 Century.” The summit, which begins at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, will feature dozens of alumnae healthcare leaders exploring timely topics, including big data, Black women's bodies, economic implications of healthcare, the drug epidemic and oral healthcare disparities. There will be a discussion between Tonya Lewis Lee, founder of Movita, and President Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D.

On Monday, Oct. 21, numerous chart-topping artists, including Lil Baby and Queen Naija, performed at #YouTubeBlack FanFest. On Tuesday, Oct. 22, singer-songwriter Sevyn Streeter headlined the annual Homecoming Neo/R&B Soul concert. Both performances were held at Morehouse College’s Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel. This year’s Homecoming festivities also include an expanded Market Friday and interactive tours of Mildred Thompson: The Atlanta Years, 1986 – 2003 during the annual Homecoming Day Party in the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art. The Signature Tailgate Experience will begin at noon on Saturday, Oct. 26, in the Milligan Center parking lot. Homecoming will conclude with a Sunday worship service at Sisters Chapel featuring Rev. Kimberly Russaw, Ph.D., C’87, assistant professor of Hebrew Bible at Christian Theological Seminary.
