Spelman and UC Berkeley to Create Student Pipeline in Sociology

September 2019

Erica WilliamsA new eight-week summer internship will provide Spelman sociology students with an opportunity to gain research experience. Students enrolled in the University of California, Berkeley Sociology Summer Research Scholars program, which launches in the summer of 2020, will participate in research and develop research ideas under the mentorship and guidance of UC Berkeley faculty and graduate student mentors.

“As an alumna of the Leadership Alliance summer research programs and a research mentor for UNCF/Mellon Mays Undergraduate Research programs, I am well aware of the need to create pipelines to top research institutions like UC Berkeley,” said Erica Williams, Ph.D., chair and associate professor of sociology and anthropology. “This program will offer our students a rare and valuable opportunity to develop the skills necessary to excel in top-tier social science graduate programs."
