Richard Benson Receives Prestigious Visiting Professorship in Social Justice

July 2019

richard_benson_0051_bw_webRichard Benson, Ph.D., associate professor in Spelman’s Department of Education, has been awarded a prestigious visiting professorship at San Francisco State University. Dr. Benson will serve as the Robert A. Corrigan Visiting Professor in Social Justice at SFSU for the 2019-2020 academic year.

SFSU’s College of Ethnic Studies is one of only two in the world. Dr. Benson considers his appointment as a bridge-building opportunity. “Due to the rich activist and social justice legacy of the SFSU CES, I will gain professional insight as a scholar-activist and instructor,” he said.

“My expectation is that my appointment will provide students at Spelman an additional example of faculty members here at the College who aim to be known not only as an effective classroom instructor but also as one who provides cutting-edge scholarship.”
