
Briana Spivey
, C'2019, is a native of Lithonia, Georgia. She made the choice to attend Spelman because she knew there was no better institution for cultivating and nurturing her into a Black woman scholar, leader and change maker.
While at Spelman, Spivey was on the Dean’s List all four years and has been an active member of the "So Psyched" Psychology Club. Additionally, Spivey worked on the PULSE Programming Board where she held the position of co-R&B concert director. She was a Social Justice Fellow, RISE Scholar and Psi Chi president as well as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Lambda Delta, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Spivey has conducted research at both the University of California-Davis and the University of Michigan, and her research interests are centered around the examination of mental health disparities among underserved populations. She is also interested in the etiology and treatment of mood disorders, more specifically the influence of psychosocial factors in the onset of mood disorders in ethnic minority groups. Following graduation, Spivey will attend the University of Georgia to pursue her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
