EHSP Student Spotlight Achiever of the Week

February 2019

Jasmine M. GaillardJasmine M. Gaillard, C'2020, is the Environmental & Health Sciences Program 's recent Student Spotlight Achiever.

Gaillard aspires to pursue a career that will allow her to address food insecurity and health disparities affecting vulnerable populations. Upon receiving her master’s degree in public health (MPH), she desires to become credentialed as a registered dietitian. Her passion is to consult the public on healthy eating choices; and she plans to obtain her Ph.D. and conduct research on food injustices, specifically their impact on rural America.

To gain valuable hands-on experience in her field of interest, the Charlotte, North Carolina native serves as an intern with the Sisters of the Soil, Spelman’s urban agriculture program sponsored by the Bonner Office of Community Service. The program focuses on the environmental, social and economic and health benefits of urban agriculture to empower 100 women and girls on the Westside to take control of their food choices.

Gaillard's ultimate goal is to work at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to assist in bettering and/or implementing national programs and policies that are devoted to improving the health of vulnerable populations throughout the nation. She has been accepted into Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health, University of Michigan School of Public Health, and the University of Georgia School of Public Health.
