Accomplished mathematician and innovative educator Tasha Inniss, Ph.D., recently returned to Spelman to join the institution's leadership team in the Office of Academic Affairs as associate provost for research.
“Dr. Inniss brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from positions held in academia, the federal government, and a non-profit organization,” said Sharon Davies, provost and vice president for academic affairs, in a campus announcement. “Her skills include grant-writing; strategic planning; business management and operations; budget development and administration; and staff development and supervision.”
Prior to returning to Spelman, Dr. Inniss held several notable positions and most recently served as the acting deputy division director of the Division of Human Resource Development (HRD) in the Directorate for Education and Human Resources. HRD houses programs designed to support projects and research that help to strengthen the nation's workforce through the increased participation and success of underrepresented groups in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
For 14 years, Dr. Inniss served as a faculty member in the
Department of Mathematics. A graduate of Xavier University, she received a master’s degree in applied mathematics from the Georgia Institute of Technology and holds the distinction of being one of the first three African-American women to earn a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Maryland.
