There were a number of reasons why Halima Monds, C’2021, wanted to attend Spelman;fit was most important.
“I needed to be in a place where I could just be me— quirky, natural, vegan and imperfect,” said Monds. “I needed a place that celebrated my locks, my hips, my complexion, my pimples and my uncertainties.”
Now that she has found that place and completed her first year, the
computer and information sciences and
economics double major is keeping busy this summer.
Already, she has participated in a
CIEE study abroad trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; volunteered at Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia's Summer Camp in Augusta; and is now interning at Facebook in Palo Alto, California, through August.
“I love technology. I love learning about how technology can be used to allow people to find ways to be economically free,” she said. “My summer at Facebook will be an excellent way for me to learn and gain a better understanding about how technology can be used.”
