Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness Receives SACS Award for Service

Myra BurnettMyra Burnett, Ph.D., vice president for Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness, is the recipient of the 2017 Carol Luthman Meritorious Service Award by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The award recognizes the recipient’s outstanding service to the SACSCOC, including volunteerism and commitment to the best principles of the academy. “SACSCOC, the largest of all regional accrediting bodies, has a renewed mission of institutional support and quality enhancement,” said Dr. Burnett.

“I am humbled to be recognized by the Commission for my work over the years.” Since 2005, Dr. Burnett has served SACSCOC in several capacities, including chairing on-site, off-site and special peer review committees, helping to develop the criteria and training materials for institutional effectiveness and participating on the Peer Review Advisory Board. 

Burnett’s professional service has included membership on several regional and national advisory committees, such as a three-year term on the Advisory Committee for the Education and Human Resources Directorate, National Science Foundation; participation in an Expert Panel for a joint committee of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and Howard Hughes Medical Institute; membership on the Peer Review Advisory Board, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges; service on the External Advisory Board for the National Experiment in Undergraduate Science Education (Project NEXUS) of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute; service on the Board of Examiners for the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (teacher certification); and service on the Advisory Board for the Social Science Research Council project, "Learning in Higher Education: Are Disadvantaged Students Catching Up or Falling Further Behind?"
