Art Lecturer and Visual Artist Attracts Mercedes-Benz Sponsorship

December 2017

Artist Charmaine Minniefield Teaches at SpelmanCharmaine Minniefield, lecturer in the Department of Art & Visual Culture, has begun a formal relationship with Mercedes-Benz USA in which the company will sponsor a number of her artistic works and community projects over many years.

The sponsorship includes financial support of Minniefield's work, including her projects with technology, new media, collaboration with other artists and continuance of her work training and mentoring young artists.

“The sponsorship gives me an opportunity to continue to do research and bring attention to the history of communities that are disappearing due to gentrification in our city,” said Minniefield, referencing Atlanta.

“I will focus a body of work on the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic District and then focus on the West End through my upcoming mural with the [Atlanta] Beltline.”

Mercedes-Benz supported Minniefield’s community murals in two Atlanta schools and supported the presentation of her recent project on art and social justice with Alternate ROOTS. She is featured in the company’s “Greatness Lives Here” campaign highlighting the work of people and organizations making an impact on Atlanta.

Watch Minniefield talk about her visual art work in the campaign’s video featured on the Mercedes-Benz USA Facebook page.
