Designers Moriah and Isabel Curley-Clay Inspire Spelman Students

Beginning this fall, twin sisters and award-winning costume and scenic designers Moriah Curley-Clay and Isabel A. Curley-Clay, will teach set design at the College. (pictured Moriah Curley-Clay)

The dynamic duo's work can be seen on stages around Atlanta and the Southeastern region, including True Colors Theatre, the Alliance Theatre and Actor’s Express. Both also are resident scenic designers at the Horizon Theatre and artistic associates at the Theatrical Outfit. They are recipients of seven Suzi Bass Awards, which recognize excellence in Atlanta professional theater.

Moriah and Isabel have been collaborating as artists since they were small children in Massachusetts. As college students they discovered a mutual love of theatrical design while studying anthropology at New York University. The pair went on to earn M.F.A degrees in theatrical design from Brandeis University and began working in regional theaters across the United States.

Spelman Professor Isabel Curely-ClayNow based in Atlanta, Georgia, Moriah and Isabel's designs have earned multiple awards and received critical acclaim. In January 2016, they were featured as part of American Theatre Magazine's feature "7 Theater Workers You Should Know."

"These busy twins have done sets and costumes for more than 50 productions in the Atlanta area. Their designs for Elemeno Pea at Horizon Theatre Company won them the Suzi Bass Award," the magazine stated. (pictured Isabell Curely-Clay)

Isabel and Moriah are both p members of IATSE, United Scenic Artists, 829 as scenic and costume designers.
