Sydney Miller Marches Toward Medical School

February 2017

Spelman Student Sydney MillerSydney Miller, C'2018, is a junior biology major on the pre-med track at Spelman. The New England native wants to become an orthopedic or plastic surgeon and is currently seeking opportunities to shadow a physician in the Atlanta area.  

A member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society and the Health Careers Program, Miller is a math tutor at Spelman and has taken advantage of a number of internships including the SURE (STEM Undergraduate Research Educator) Summer Program where she researched different teaching styles and helped teach math and science classes.  

Miller also served as an undergraduate intern at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. Through the school's Emerging Professionals Summer Internship Program, a ten-week paid internship experience for talented underrepresented minority college students, she helped plan and supervise the Building Brighter Futures with Youth high school internship program, performed an environmental scan on workplace bullying, and presented her findings to numerous faculty members. She also prepared and organized various aspects of the institution's SEED Symposium.

Upon graduating from Spelman, Miller desires to attend medical school
