Spelman Trustees Invited to Join Corporate Board, Advisory Councils

Three Spelman College Board of Trustees members have received invitations to join a corporate board and advisory groups that promote science and services for children with disabilities.

Rosalind BrewerThe Starbucks Corporation has nominated Board of Trustees Chair Rosalind Gates Brewer, C’84, to join the company’s board of directors. Brewer is the former president and chief executive officer of Sam’s Club (a division of Walmart). Her nomination will be finalized at Starbuck’s annual shareholders meeting on March 22.

Mary Lynne DiggsIn addition, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Trustee Mary Lynne Diggs, C’77, to the state’s Interagency Coordinating Council. The Council advises and assists in the development of a comprehensive interagency system to provide services for infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families. Diggs is director of the Head Start Collaboration Office in the South Carolina Department of Social Services.

Mark LeeAlso, Trustee Mark Lee, Ph.D., associate professor of biology at Spelman, has been invited to join an advisory committee for the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s new three-year project “Engaging Scientists in the Science and Religion Dialogue.” As a committee member, Dr. Lee will provide input on the selection of academic societies and universities for “Engaging Scientists” events, as well as establish the scope and content for workshops and other activities at these events.
