Keyana Johnson Uses Love for Animals to Succeed in Biology

February 2017

Keyana JohnsonKeyana Johnson is a Bronx native who never would have imagined herself as a sophomore biology major at Spelman College. However, a passion for helping animals, tenacity when faced with obstacles, and perseverance to succeed aided this Class of 2019 student to begin a new path into science. Here is her uplifting story from her own perspective.

1. How is Spelman helping you reach your dream career? Spelman is helping me to reach my career goals by teaching me to be the best woman that I can be while helping me to grow from the things that I struggle with. The classes help me deepen my understanding of the value of life. Courses also provide many opportunities during the year that will prepare me for my future in veterinary school.

2. Where do you see yourself in five years? I see myself having graduated and gone on to veterinary school with an honors scholarship.

3. Who has influenced you to pursue your interests in Atlanta?
A Spelman alumna whom I grew up with inspired me to pursue my higher education in Atlanta. When we were younger we both promised each other that we would attend Spelman and move out. She did it, and now I am.
