
Actress Brittany Bellizeare, C'2005, is staring in the world premiere production of
“The Last Tiger in Haiti” at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego.
The play, which opened June 28, weaves Haitian lore into a contemporary narrative of survival and betrayal. Set in a tent shack in Haiti, the drama follows a group of child slaves trading folktales. In the play, Bellizeare portrays the storyteller Rose. As a child, Rose is inquisitive and openhearted; as a woman, she has secrets and a life to protect.
Bellizeare, who earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics at Spelman and a Master of Fine Art in acting from New School University, has performed at regional theaters across the country. Her TV credits include “Eye Candy” on MTV and “The Knick” on Cinemax. She also appeared in the movies
Everything Absolutely (2012),
Orson Welles: Arm Candy (2015) and
Hudson Sunset in the After-while (2015).“The Last Tiger in Haiti” will run until July 24.
