The Emergency Department of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding has been named for Spelman Board of Trustees member Lovette Twyman Russell, C’83.
Russell was honored on May 31 during a reception at the hospital. She is chair of the Hughes Spalding Community Board and a member of the CHOA Foundation Board of Trustees.
Hughes Spalding, which opened in 1952 as a private hospital for paying African-American adults, is close to Russell’s heart. She was born there. The hospital later became a pediatric facility, and Russell works to ensure that the downtown facility offers the same quality of care as Atlanta’s other two children’s hospitals – CHOA at Egleston and CHOA at Scottish Rite.
Known for her strong commitment to children’s causes, she has received numerous honors for her community work. She joined the Spelman Trustee Board in 2009.
