Pride Week 2018

Monday, April 16, 2018 to Saturday, April 21, 2018

  • Spelman College
Afrekete Pride WeekThe Spelman College student organization Afrekete will host the sixth annual Pride Week and present a series of events from April16-22. Students will celebrate LGBTQIAPD+ pride and uplift the various sexual orientations and gender identities of students.

This year’s Pride Week themed, “Wakanda Forever: The Queers are Here," will offer lectures by scholars, activists and authors, workshops, a drag show and an outdoor event designed to simulate a beach party on April 22.

“Broken free from the chains of the mainstream heterosexual world, LGBTQIAPD+ people are often misunderstood,” said Amber Warren, C’2018, president of Afrekete.

“This is why it is vital that people, groups and organizations take a stand and create thoughtful events for people in the LGBTQIAPD+ community to showcase their differences.” Pride Week is open to the Atlanta University Center community. Afrekete offers safe, creative and liberating spaces for Spelman students across the LGBTQIAPD+ community and their allies.
