Teacher Certification Preparation Program

Are you a college graduate interested in gaining Georgia teacher certification in Secondary Education (grades 6-12) in chemistry, English, history, mathematics, physics or political science, or Pre K-12 music or Spanish? If so, the eSpelman online Teacher Certification Preparation Program is for you!

The Teacher Certification Preparation Program is a year-long, online program designed for college graduates from Spelman and outside institutions who wish to earn teacher certification. Successful completion of the coursework prepares students to receive state certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Time Commitment
One academic year (fall and spring semester)


Online, hybrid


  • A college degree or 21 acceptable credit hours in one of the following disciplines: Chemistry, English, History, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Political Science, or Spanish
  • Passing score on the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) Program Admissions Assessment or proof of exemption based on one of the following (verification must be provided):
    • SAT Score > 1080 (combined total on Verbal and Math)
    • ACT Score > 43 (combined total on English and Math)
  • Passing score on Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) in content area of certification
  • Have a minimum 2.85 cumulative GPA from an accredited undergraduate institution
  • Complete an Intro/Orientation to Education course


We are launching this eSpelman Program at the inaugural price of $9,000 for the 2022-23 academic year.

This inaugural rate leads the nation in affordability. Compare to up to $30,000 from other online teaching certification programs and up to $100,000 for a bachelor’s degree program in education.


The Teacher Certification Preparation Program consists of six courses.
