Reflection

The most challenging assignment was assignment three when we had to find at least twenty resources related to the topic that we were given.  This assignment was challenging because it was not that easy to look through over two hundred resources and find which ones would be the most useful for the given topic.  One of the difficulties was deciding which keywords to use when performing the search. When doing research there are many irrelevant and old topics that may be provided.  Also many of the resources found  may have been extremely useful, but where not accessible which was a bit frustrating.

Because of this experience, this assignment was the most useful.  Having to provide so many resources forces you to thoroughly look through all of the sources that were found.  It also makes you learn how to perform better searches and use more useful parameters.  After an assignment such as this, a person can become more comfortable with doing research.

The first assignment that we were given, the literature review, was not hard but time consuming.  One thing that a student will learn after an assignment such as this is to how to skim read.  This assignment required that we read a review of what a critic thought about a year’s worth of critical articles on 18th Century Literature.  Assignment one helped the student to practice how to scan an article and still get the important information out.

All of the assignments that we were given in some way helped to teach students how to perform important tasks related to being an English major.  Some were long and difficult but in the end helped to benefit the student.
