The Computer Science department web site comprises about a dozen
main areas or topics, listed on every page (typically to the left,
but that depends on your browser and its layout decisions), and each
of these areas is a tree of pages. The links going "down" the tree
into more detail are mentioned on the main part of the page,
typically the right hand side of the page. To go back up the tree,
just use the "back" button on your browser. Of course, some of the
down links may be cross-references to other areas; that's what makes
the Web a web.
Here's what the major areas are about:
- New/Prospective Students
- These are pages of information for young women who are thinking
of becoming Computer Science majors at Spelman. They may be Spelman
students thinking of changing their major, transfer students from
another college or university, or high school students looking at
places to study after high school.
- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- A common feature on many Internet/Web sites is the FAQ, which is
just a list of questions that have been asked many times in the
past, and so the answers were written down somewhere that casual
passers-by can find them. Anytime you're at a new web site, look
for an FAQ.
Our FAQ includes questions from prospective students, Spelman CS
majors, Spelman students not majoring in computer science, and
many others. Be sure to check the FAQ before emailing us a
question---you'll get your answer faster, and we'll have more
time for answering the tough questions.
- General Info
- This is a small amount of introductory information: what kind
of department we are, what things do we do, and so forth.
- Navigation
- If you're reading this page, you know what the Navigation
section holds. It has information to help you find your way
around these pages.
- Faculty
- Information about the faculty in the department, including what
kind of research we do, and links to our personal web pages. All
bets are off on what you'll find on someone's personal page!
- Students
- Currently, these pages mostly list the students in the
department, by year. We're hoping that more and more students (and
graduates!) will help us link in their personal home pages, so that
their sister students can find them here.
-
- Academics
- For many visitors of these pages, the information they want is
under Academics. These pages include course web pages, sample
course sequences, information about each course, prerequisites, and
much more.
- Organizations
- The people of the Computer Science Department are not islands.
The faculty and students are members of various computer-related
clubs and organizations. These are links (usually off-site) to
the web pages of those related organizations.
- Contacting Us
- Information about reaching us by email, voicemail, snailmail,
and old-fashioned methods like phone, train, plane and automobile.
- Facilities
-
These pages have information about the hardware, equipment,
classrooms, and other facilities that the department has.
