On-line Grades
Some CGI and Perl code has been implemented to allow students to check
their grades (in case the professor has made a clerical error and
recorded the wrong grade) and to get a calculation of how they are
currently doing. The calculation involves simple averages and
weighted averages; if you're unfamiliar with weighted averages, you
can
read about it.
Policies
To protect your privacy, you must submit a code or password to
retrieve your grades. Obviously, you should not give out that code to
anyone who you do not want to be able to access your grades.
Furthermore, participation in the on-line grades system is voluntary;
your grades will only be available on-line if you want them to be. To
make them available, all you have to do is choose a secret code and
give it to your professor.
How To
Using the system is pretty easy. You select the course name from a
menu, type in your special code, and click on the "show grades"
button. It's all here. You might want
to bookmark that page.
If you are on a text-only connection (say via a modem or telnet), or
if you are logged into a Spelman Unix machine, you can access the
information by using the LYNX browser or by simply typing the
following to the unix shell:
grade-compute COURSE
where you have replaced "COURSE" with the name of your course, such as
"cis213." The script will prompt you for your code. It will then
print out the grades in a simple text-only format.
Problems
For problems with your grade, contact your professor. For problems
with the software, contact Dr. Anderson.
