What is a Corporate Lawyer?

Corporate lawyers advise businesses on the legal obligations that they have, along with rights and responsibilities.

What does a Corporate Lawyer do?

A corporate lawyer structures transactions, drafts documents, and review other lawyers'  agreements, negotiate deals, attend meetings, and make calls toward those ends. A corporate lawyer does their best to make sure the agreements they make don't cause problems for their clients in the future.

Technology and Corporate Law

Technology is a crucial part of the world of corporate law in two important ways:

  1. When making transactions concerning a business a corporate lawyer need to be able to handle the areas of:

    BBSes
    Copyright
    Data Security
    Digital Publishing
    Digital Signatures
    Digital Trespass
    Interactive Services
    Internet
    Ebusiness
    Ecommerce
    Electronic Distribution
    Email
    Encryption
    Marketing Practices
    Outsourcing
    Privacy
    Software Development, Protection, and Licensing
    Software Piracy
    Taxation
    Trademarks

All of these things are crucial parts of corporate law and some companies even require for their attorneys to have a degree in information technology (IT).  As technology changes so does the way a corporation interfaces with its consumers. It is very likely that if one is seeking a career in this field being computer literate would be necessary.

2.  Communication. Communication is key in the corporate world and in order to be able to stay in touch and stay organized they need to use technological devices. The use of cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), fax machines, copiers, e-mailing, and all other advances made in technology are utilized by those in corporate law.
