CIS 100 -- MS Word Assignment 3
The goal of this assignment is to use MS Word 2007 to create a document that looks
like a term paper, except that it has no information in it. Think of it
as a ``boilerplate'' document. The emphasis is just on formatting.
Use MS Word to create a template or skeleton of a paper.
- The paper should have a title page with your name and the title of
your paper on it. This should be on a page by itself.
- It should have a table of contents, complete with page
numbers, using the table of contents generator. This should be on a page
by itself.
- The paper should have at least five major sections, each of which
falls on a different page. The first section is called ``Introduction''
and the last is called ``Conclusion''; you can call the others anything
you want.
- Each of those body sections should have two or more subsections.
- Titles of sections and subsections should be typographically
distinguished from the rest of the text (font, spacing, etc.). You can
fill in the actual text of sections and subsections with ``blah blah''
or whatever your instructor assigns. Note that it is easy to do this using cut and paste;
you can generate 5 pages of text in about 15 seconds.
- You must use at least one footnote. It should be on the first page.
- You must use at least one cross reference. It should be on the
first page, referring to something on the last page.
- You must use a running header that has the title of the paper in it.
- The pages must be numbered using the automatic page numbering.
In addition, the first four paragraphs of the paper must show that you
know how to do different kinds of indentation. The first paragraph must
have no indentation, like this one. Each paragraph must be separated by a
blank line, so that the paragraph breaks are clear.
( TAB ) The second paragraph must have a normal paragraph indent.
Don't use spaces to indent! The indentation must be controlled by the tab
that you set. Make sure you clear all tabs at the beginning of the
document, and add tabs as necessary to do the indentation.
- The third paragraph should have a double indentation, meaning
that it is moved in from both margins, like this one. If you're having
trouble seeing this, run a ruler down both margins of the paper. You'll
see that this paragraph is indented from the left and right margins.
- [] The fourth paragraph should have a hanging indent, so that all the
lines except the first are moved in from the left margin by one tab.
Note that all of the paragraphs that you do this way must have
soft returns at the end of each line. The only hard return is at
the end of the paragraph.
Check with the Instructor as to how this assignment is to be turned in.
Time
This whole assignment should take you less than an hour. If it's taking
longer than that, get some help.
