Objective:
Create a web site using MS Expression Web.
Use an Internet
browser to open and preview your page.
To Do:
Use Internet web tutorial web sites to
create at lest two HTML
documents (a web site) that will summarize your Career Project
research.
Start off by creating a web page from
the on-line and in-class lessons for practice and understanding.
You will use MS Expression Web to create the site and it will
generate the HTML (Hyper-Text Markup Language) codes just like you wer
introduced to in class.
- Create a folder on your flash drive named myweb.
Use this folder as the location of your web site.
- Open MS Expression Web
- On the machines in room 226 you will find it in the
upper-lefthand corner (Microsoft
Expression Web) of the desktop or you can go to Start->All
Programs->Microsoft Expression->Microsoft Expression Web
- If the screen is not blank, then that means that a
previous project was open. You can go to File->Close Site and
this will clear the screen
- Now its time create your website
- From the menubar select File->New
- This will side panel on the right-hand side.
From the New
Web Site... section select One Page Web Site
- Select Browse
and find the myweb folder
on your flash drive, and select that folder and click Open
- Now you should see a screen with the following files and
folders:
- Folder: _Private
- Folder: images
- File: index.htm
(with a little house next to it)
- Now Double-Click
on the index.htm
folder to begin building your website!!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Always place images for your website into the images folder. If the image is coming from the web, then you need to right-click on the image and save the image to the images folder in your myweb folder. ALL IMAGES NEED TO BE IN THE IMAGES FOLDER :). If they are not, then you will end up with a box and red X in its place on the web browser.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Also, you shoud test your website on other computers before you zip the folder and before you submit. You can not view a webpage withing a zipped folder.
Your web site must have
“style”.
- Be creative by adding “Links”,
“Images”,
“Color” to your Web Page.
- Make sure that your page looks pleasing to a viewer.
However, don’t overdue the creative elements (Top 10 Mistakes in Web Design).
- Your links and images should be relevant to the content of
the page and site
Your text book and Internet tutorials
are all you need to demonstrate an understanding of how to create a
website.
An accurate and creative website will
generate an “A”.
DO NOT sacrifice content for creative elements. Your site should first
and foremost be about your career (Please reference the
Career Project Grade sheet
).
To get
extra points (5 each/ MAX 10 points) do two
of the following:
- Fully functioning web site burned onto a CD.
- Implement Frames.
- JavaScript elements.
- Background music on open or mouse over.
- Video (media) clip play.
