Page 35 of the April 2002 issue of MAA's Math Horizons consisted of
a visual/verbal puzzle (authored by Colm Mulcahy with the help of
Thomas Sederberg and John H. Conway), in the guise of that publication's
Final Exam.
A slightly trimmed form
of the solution appeared in the November 2002 issue of Math Horizons.
