Dr. Mulcahy is an Associate Professor in the
Department of Mathematics
at Spelman College, in Atlanta, Georgia.
He has been at Spelman College since 1988, getting a year off in Regensburg,
Germany (1991-92) for good behaviour, and more recently a sabbatical leave
(1997-98) and an unpaid leave at St. Louis University in Madrid (2002-03).
He recently (2003-06) served the department chair.
He obtained two degrees from University College
Dublin (Ireland) at a young age. Later, some 3000 miles west of Dublin,
he was given the third degree (and a
fourth)
by Cornell University, where he was
the 18th of
Alex
F.T.W. Rosenberg's 21 Ph.D. students (see here also).
Mathematics and/or life has also taken him to Germany and Hawaii (for two
years each), Spain (one year) and Cuba (two terrific trips).
Before coming to Spelman, he surfed on the faculty at The University of
Hawaii at Manoa (in Honolulu), and taught for a year at Emory University
(in Atlanta).
