C.A.R.E. Camp Daily Schedule

8:00 am: Drop-off and Breakfast

8:30 am: Seminar/Visiting Speakers

9:00 am: Daily Instruction Session I

10:30am: Daily Instruction Session II

Both instructional sessions consists of the following:

  • AIBO Robotics (July Camps): The curriculum consists of learning a basic programming language called RCode to program the Sony AIBO dogs to dance to a song that the students choose. In addition, the students learn how to use robotics design tools to remote control the robots to play soccer.

  • Virtual Worlds Programming in Alice (July Camps): Alice is a programming environment that gives students the programming tools to build virtual worlds in 3D! The programming is all based on visual principles and drag-n-drop. Students learn how to build programs like animated movies and video games. Students learn algorithmic problem solving and basic programming principles while having fun.

  • Lego Robotics (June Camp): The curriculum consists of learning to build and program ( Lego Mindstorms NXT robots and Lego NXT Education Curriculum). Students are exposed to problem solving and engineering principles during the building process and algorithmic problem solving (essential to programming computers) during the programming process.

  • Game Programming, Interactive Stories, and more (June Camp): Students will learn how to make games, interactive stories, graphical designs based on mathematics, etc. This portion of the camp will be based on a programming language environment for kids called Phrogram. This programming language is more advanced than Alice and more flexible. Problem solving through algorithms is at the center of this portion of the camp, and of course even more fun!
