Continuing a Legacy to Recognize and
Encourage International Scholarship
The purpose of the Spelman (Beta Omega) Chapter of Phi Beta Delta, an honor society for international scholars, is to foster interest and scholarship in the international arena among faculty, staff, and students.
The Spelman Chapter was organized in 1994. Membership is open to individuals who have demonstrated scholarly achievement in the international arena in any of the following three categories:
- Distinguished faculty, staff, and visiting scholars involved in international endeavors such as teaching, administrating exchange programs, conducting research, or providing services and programs to international students and scholars
- International students who have demonstrated high scholastic achievement at their U.S. institution
- Domestic students who have demonstrated high scholastic achievement at their U.S. institution

Faculty and Staff (American-or Foreign-born)
Nominees should fulfill a combination of the following criteria:
- Experience in teaching, lecturing, and/or research in international affairs.
- Experience in organizing and conducting study experiences for students in foreign countries.
- Extensive international travels.
- Significant involvement in international activities on campus.
- Experience in advising student groups focused on international issues.
- Active involvement in organizations such as Carter Center, the Georgia Council for International Visitors, Alliance Francaise, etc.
- Command of a foreign language.
