Clery Report - Crime Statistics

CAMPUS CRIME STATISTICS

The statistics that follow represent those incidents known to the college as reported by Spelman College Campus Security Authorities, administrators of Non-Campus Buildings as defined by the Jeanne Clery Act, and data provided by the Atlanta Police Department. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting definitions have been used to classify incidents.

Spelman is immediately adjacent to three other institutions that are required to report crime statistics under the Jeanne Clery Act. This unique geographical position results in an overlapping of campus police jurisdictions. To avoid double reporting of incidents the college has elected to define the geographical area for which statistics are maintained as the Spelman Campus, Non-Campus Buildings as defined by the Jeanne Clery Act, and Public Streets and Thoroughfares adjacent and leading to the Spelman campus. This approach is employed rather than attempting to capture all crimes that occur within the 500-yard jurisdictional boundaries of the Spelman Police Department. It is the policy of the Spelman Police Department to report all crimes that come to our attention that occur on the campus of any neighboring institution to the campus police agency with jurisdiction. The following contact information is provided to assist you should wish to obtain campus crime statistics for our neighboring institutions:

Westview Dr. from Chapel St. Westend Ave.
Greensferry Ave from Northside Dr. West to Henry St.
Spelman Lane from Northside Dr. North to Greensferry Ave.

These areas are public property and thoroughfares within the jurisdiction of the Spelman College Police Department that are not on the property of neighboring institutions.

The Department of Public Safety maintains a Daily Crime Log that is available for inspection by the public during normal business hours of the college. The Daily Crime Log identifies incidents that are reportable as defined by the Jeanne Clery Act and reflects the geographical location, date and time of occurrence, and disposition if known.

For the reporting periods reflected below none of the incidents referenced have been classified as Hate or Bias crimes where the victim was intentionally selected because of actual or perceived race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or disability   NEXT > >
