Applying for Internships
Internships provide employment opportunities for students to gain work experience, learn about the nature of a specific industry, obtain skills and knowledge in that industry, and acquire contacts that can assist them in securing a full-time job and building a career. They can be either paid or unpaid.
When applying for internships, there are a number of ways to access them including: on-campus interviewing, online internship postings, internship-specific websites, and various internship publications available in our office.
We strongly recommend students register with our online employment system, eRecruiting. eRecruiting is a career management tool used by the College to coordinate the on-campus recruiting efforts of organizations representing corporate, non-profit, government agencies, etc. . Students can access various features such as:
-
Reviewing monthly recruiting calendars
-
Registering online for an interview schedule
-
Searching for jobs and internships
-
Receiving internship listings from the CPD Office
-
Uploading resumes, cover letters, and transcripts
-
Students will need to secure a username and password from the
-
Career Planning office in order to access eRecruiting.
In addition to eRecruiting, there are a number of internship-specific websites that students may access in order to research external opportunities in various fields. A listing of these websites along with the corresponding user names and passwords may be obtained during a counseling session with one of our career coaches.
Organizations, such as INROADS and SEO, represent a diverse number of employers seeking to hire Spelman students. Both organizations participate in the on-campus recruitment process.
Finally, we have a number of publications that are available in our career resource library that have numerous listings of internship opportunities. Students may simply drop by the office during normal business hours (9 am – 5 pm, M-F) without an appointment in order to review these publications.
