WISDOM Center: Student Development
Student Development and Leadership Training
Sisters Chapel
Scholars Program
This competitive program affords five outstanding Spelman students with the opportunity to pursue research in an area of their choice that supports
the mission of
Sisters Chapel.
The research is designed to span an academic year. At the end of that year, each student submits a comprehensive report on her findings, which are then archived in the Center. This prestigious award is in the amount of $5,000. (Photo: Fallen Wilson used the award to research African American Women's Reproductive Struggles and
conceived, wrote, produced and starred in a moving play called,
"Spiritual Fire: Reclaiming our Bodies, Resurrecting our Stories, and Mothering our Daughters.")
Daughters of the Covenant
Mentoring Program
“Within my spirit lies the unwavering voice of the Holy Spirit, which provides me with direction and understanding beyond the obvious. In order for me to effectively operate in my vocational call, I am convinced that I must develop a keen
sense of discernment and be able to follow
the leading of the sprit within,” comments Davenport (C'04).
The Daughters of the Covenant Mentoring Program (DOC) is designed for students who are interested in a mentoring experience with a woman of African descent whose faith has informed her vocational choices.
This six-week summer internship invites students to shadow their mentor daily, complete assigned readings, journal on a regular basis, and reflect on their spiritual formation and faith journey in the hope that this exploring will inform their own vocational choices. Each participant selected for the DOC program receives a $2,500 stipend.
