Earth Day Program
April 2010
The Bonner Office of Community Service & Student Development at Spelman celebrates Earth Day with a variety of events ranging from film screenings, Earth Week forums, campus-wide sustainability initiatives and more. We firmly believe that if the environmental movement is going to bring about real change, then the Spelman community must be at the forefront of that change. We are the next generation of environmental leaders, and we can change the world!
In observance of 2010 Earthday, Spelman students pledged to remain environmentally conscious and to apply the knowledge gleaned from their years at Spelman College in a way that raises awareness of the importance of sustainability. Students took action by commiting to shut off their lights and all electronic equipment from one hour on Earth Day in order to benefit our environment.
As a result of this pledge during this hour, there was about a 36kW drop in electrical usage. As result, about 50 less pounds of CO2 were generated to produce electricity for our campus.
