Athletic Director Receives Administrator of Year Award

The National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators will honor Spelman athletic director Germaine McAuley with the Nell Jackson Administrator of the Year Award on Monday, Oct. 8, at the NACWAA National Convention in St. Petersburg, Fla. The award is given to an individual who demonstrates such qualities as courage, conviction and perseverance, as well as outstanding administration in intercollegiate athletics.

Since McAuley's tenure, Spelman has become a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division III; the tennis team garnered its first conference championship; and softball has been added as a sport. Prior to her arrival at Spelman, McAuley served as associate director of Athletics Compliance at Delaware State University and Norfolk State University from 1996 to 2003.

She also served as head and assistant coach in women's basketball and volleyball at several Division I universities from 1980 to 1996. McAuley is a graduate of High Point College, now High Point University, where she was captain and point guard of the University's first national championship team in women's basketball. She received her master's of science degree in health, physical education and recreation from North Carolina A&T University.
