Ableism Awareness Day

Sponsored by the Social Justice Fellows program and Project I AM

When: Wednesday, April 17, 11 a.m.-2p.m.

Where: Manley Student Center Training Room.- Upper Manley

The purpose of Project I Am is to educate and raise awareness about inclusion and sensitivity surrounding the different abilities present within the Spelman College Community. There will also be an opportunity to receive and  experience a demonstration of  the followoing computer software available on this campus:

Inspiration
- helpful for visual learning by organizing and developing thoughts in diagrams, outlines and papers.

Dragon Naturally - speech recognition software which types as you talk, allowing you to use your voice to create and edit documents, manage email, and search the web.

textHelp Read and Write Gold - works with familiar applications including Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer and Adobe Reader, allowing students to access the support tools they need from within mainstream software programs. It also allows teachers to provide the differentiated instruction that is necessary to meet the needs of diverse student populations, including those with reading and writing difficulties.

Jaws and Zoom - software designed to assist students with visual impairments by reading documents and magnifying the screen.   

Come make statements of solidarity as we work to break the silence about ableism in our community.
