The objectives of the school are designed to accomplish these goals:

  • Offer educational experiences for young children in keeping with their developmental needs and interests
  • Supplement the home environment by providing indoor and outdoor equipment and materials not supplies by any individual family
  • Encourage social development through supervised play with other children
  • Contribute to the personality development of each child as a member of his/her peer group and his/her family
  • Establish home-school relations with contribute to mutual understanding and guidance of young children.

 

Procedures

Hours of Operation: 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Drop-off/Pick-up: Children must be received from and picked up by their parents or guardians from the location of the school at The Laura Spelman Memorial Hall, Lower Level, Spelman College Campus

Annual Programs: We encourage all parents and guardians to attend our Christmas, Black History, and the end of the year programs.

Holidays: The school is closed in the following holidays: Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Good Friday, and Memorial Day.

Fees: $840/per month

 

Program Requirements

Age: Only preschoolers, ages 2 1/2 to 6 years may be enrolled

Clothing: A supply of clothing must be kept at school for children in case of accident or emergency. A flat sheet also required.

Health: Children with a heavy cough and a temperature are required to remain at home until the symptoms are clear. Children who have had contagious diseases and have been absent from school are required to bring a written statement from the doctor showing evidence of recovery.

Safety: Parents are required to walk their children inside their respective classrooms.

Supervision: Children are supervised at all times whether in the classroom, on the playground, or in sleeping areas.

Records: Each child must have on file, Immunization Record; Medical Record; Records of Applications; Records of any Allergies; Emergency Information

Parent Responsibilities

Parent/Teacher Association meetings are held once per month

Clothing: Parents are asked to dress children in clothing that is simple, washable, sturdy, not too light, safe, easy to manage, comfortable, and labeled for proper identification. Outdoor clothing should suit the weather.

Medical examinations are required before children are admitted. Parents assume responsibility for providing health care to their children.

 

Growing (the physical)

Development of the total child; the physical, intellectual and social growth

Nutritional, guidance: planned and balanced meals consisting of mid-morning snacks; hot well-balanced lunch; mid-afternoon snacks

Balance between rest periods and recreation

Design recreation and play for the young child

Progressive evaluation through testing and diagnosis

Periodic consultation, reports and information for and to parents.

 

Learning (the intellectual)

Curriculum based on the needs and ages of the children; concepts developed for reading, writing, numbers readiness

Music area and nature study

Free Play; exploratory and creative activities according to interests and choices

Cultural events; play games, special school events and celebrations, movies

Individual assistance when needed

 

Living (the social)

Activities designed to develop social awareness, behavior

Exercise in sharing

Encouraging leadership abilities

Group responsibilities, associations and activities

Individual awards and recognition
