The Office of Student Financial Services will lead an informative discussion on the overall financial aid process. Various types of federal and state financial aid programs will be discussed along with different types of loans and scholarships available to students. Informational handouts will be provided for your convenience. Time will be allotted for questions and answers.

Daughters of Men: Portraits of African American Men and their Daughters

Meet author Rachel Vassell and a dynamic panel to discuss her book "Daughters of Men." This book showcases the importance of the black father's impact on the accomplishments of his daughter.
With a heartfelt foreword by best-selling author, professor and radio host Michael Eric Dyson, this book provides an intimate look at black fatherhood. Panelist will include Denise Myers, director of On Demand and PPV Marketing, Cox Communications; Nicci Gilbert, member of the multi-platinum 90s R&B group Brownstone; and Sharyn Mack, manager local relationships, Prudential.

The State of Young Black America

Join us for a lively panel discussion regarding topics that affect young Black America. A few of the topics to be discussed are politics, HIV/AIDS, violence against women, and the image of young Black women in the media.
This event is being conducted by the WISDOM Center. Panelists will include Dr. Cynthia Spence, associate professor, sociology and anthropology department, Spelman College; Dr. Jelani Cobb, assistant professor, history department, Spelman College; Reverend Dr. Raphael G. Each participant will receive a special memoir from Dr. Christine King Farris, Spelman College professor and sister of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

HBO Premiere of HBO Sports poignant documentary, "Joe Louis: America's Hero...Betrayed"

Born May 12, 1914 in LaFayette, Alabama, Joseph Louis Barrow, who became known as the "Brown Bomber," was America's first true crossover athlete.
The film underscores Louis' importance during a critical time in America's history. In 1938 when Louis defeated Germany's Max Schmeling, his victory was interpreted as democracy's defeat of Nazism, boosting public morale and transforming him into a true American.
