Connecting Children With Nature at Summer Camp
Rising senior Taylor Morton is having the time of her life as a unit leader and outdoors specialist with Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. This summer marks the second year the environmental studies major has worked at Camp Pine Acres in Acworth, Georgia.
During camp season, Morton, who is affectionately known as “Grizz” to campers, instructs various outdoor activities such as archery and fishing. Recently certified in the challenge course, Morton also facilitates zip-lining and rock climbing activities. Once camp ends, Morton will attend the 2014 Natural Leaders Legacy Camp, July 20-25, at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
Participants in the five-day camp commit to developing community awareness about the importance of connecting children, youth, families, and whole communities to nature in their everyday lives.
