Student Profiles: Najja Ellis, C'2015
Rising Senior Soars With Delta Air Lines
Thanks to her summer cooperative education experience, Najja Ellis, C’2015, is going places she
never imagined. As a fleet engineering co-op intern with Delta Air Lines, the dual-degree
mathematics and electrical engineering major is responsible for executing the development, design and process, and inspection documentation in support of Delta’s worldwide maintenance activities.
In her role, Ellis provides quality and timely technical documentation to correct problems affecting aircraft structure. Now in her third co-op term with Delta, Ellis has traveled to Brussels, Belgium; Barcelona, Spain; Dublin, Ireland; Rome, Italy; and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
This past summer, her goal was to travel to at least five more countries for further global exposure.
After her first co-op experience with Delta in 2013, Ellis said: "I wouldn't trade my experience working with Delta Airlines for the past eight months for anything. I was given the privilege to serve as a fleet engineering co-op student with the fleet engineering team. This is when my out-of-the-classroom learning and training fully began, and I experienced first-hand what it takes to become a technical engineer," she said.
"The travel benefits helped make my experience at Delta enjoyable as well. Overall, I would definitely recommend that more of my Spelman sisters participate in the co-op program
in order to gain real working and technical experiences that will better equip them for life after graduation."
