Senior Farewell Speech -- Page 2
Who could have known then the inimitable experiences and the treasured memories that these past four years have brought? Who would have known that among us are sisters who have traveled to Turkey, Spain, Australia, Ghana, China, Japan, Egypt, Costa Rica, and London in search of ways to serve and uplift communities? Who would have known that within the Class of 2010 are women who have been featured on the Oprah show, acted in movies, and appeared on CNN?
Who would have known that among us are those who will in a few years be distinguished doctors, lawyers, educators, CEOs, bankers and trailblazers and innovators in their chosen fields? Who would have known that along this amazing journey we would have made lifelong friends and sisters whowill stand beside us as bridesmaids, godmothers to our children, and steadfast supporters on other very special days?
Who could have known on that hot August day four years ago, that at 3 p.m. today, May 16, 2010, the Georgia World Congress Center here in Atlanta, would see the Class of 2010 graduate with more than 550 amazing and brilliant women? Five hundred and fifty women—each and every one of whom I am happy to call my Spelman sister.
Yes, who would have known?
But before we made it to this day, we had to study all the textbooks, write all the papers, do all the research and survive life in our chosen majors to leave our legacy throughout the Spelman community. The outstanding alumnae, world renowned professors, and academically rigorous and nurturing environment of Spelman College has prepared us to excel in each of our future endeavors.
