Commencement Speeches 2010

Good Afternoon,

I extend warm greetings to President Beverly Daniel Tatum, the Board of Trustees, Spelman College Faculty and Staff, the Alumnae, Family and Friends. Greetings also to Ambassador Susan Rice and Ms. Marian Wright Edelman; thank you for your presence here today and for the words of inspiration that you have shared with us.

Most importantly, I would like to formally greet the Graduating Class of 2010.
I have sincerely enjoyed this experience serving as Senior Class President and I must express my gratitude to each of you for allowing me to lead you through one of the most defining years in our lives. From Homecoming to lighter academic loads, to accepting spectacular job and graduate school offers, and participating in Senior Week 2010, I hope you have enjoyed your senior year. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledgethe 11 other individuals who contributed to the planning, publicizing and execution of senior year festivities.

Thank You to the Senior Class Council. These ladies have been the backbone of the events that have made for a successful and unforgettable year. Without your brilliant ideas this all would not have been possible, thank you again.

Class of 2010, or as we are affectionately known, “Class of Dimes” nearly four years ago, we each drove in our packed cars through the gates of Spelman with Student Orientation Leaders cheering us each step of the way and, in doing so, we took the first step on our path to success. We were eager and excited to begin what many call the best four years of our lives.
