Raising Awareness in Women: The Ashley Project
Dr. Tarshia Stanley

Developed by a student group in the Spring, 2003, English 409, Images of Women in the Media, this website will provide discussion and resources for young women (aged 8-17) on issues across a broad variety of topics in health, recreational resources, rights, safety, media representations. Framing their comments in a diary narrative by a fictional young woman named Ashley, the six authors of this project have composed entries to appeal to the needs and concerns of this age group, offering judicious advice about managing problems young women face. They employed the more adult research about the media’s treatment of women, but scaled the commentary to fit this distinctive audience.
