L-I-N-K-E-D began as a Bush-Hewlett Foundation grant project that aimed to revitalize the learning objectives and creative process of the undergraduate writing workshop. This inaugural issue is thus the culmination of the poetry writing classes at Spelman College during the 2003-2004 academic year. Numerous student writers, editors, artists, and web designers contributed to the creation of this journal. And without the tireless, enthusiastic assistance of the grant project administrator and technical support staff, this project would not have been possible. We also thank the professional writers and artists among our faculty and in the national and international artist communities whose work appears here.
